Austin Varela is a PhD student in the Tri-Institutional Computational Biology & Medicine program. He previously received a Biology BS and a Data Science BA from the University of Rochester where he did research on protein cooperation across mammalian evolution. Austin also received an MS in Computational Biology from Weill Cornell, where he studied cellular communication in the tumor microenvironment. Currently, Austin is interested in computational methods development with a focus on applications for understanding cancer heterogeneity. In his free time, Austin enjoys discovering new restaurants 🍴 and traveling to explore cities.
